Pharmacology education in nursing has become increasingly important as nurses roles in administering, prescribing and educating patients about their medications have grown. Nurses are the last barrier between any particular drug and patient. This is why it is so important to be knowledgeable when it comes to drug uses, doses, side effects, and contraindications. In addition to the obvious benefit of protecting our patients and fulfilling our oath to do no harm, it benefits all nurses to know and be well versed in the drugs they are administering in order to protect themselves and their nursing licenses.
